A barrier to health in Alaskan village: the high cost of food and access to fresh food

[Pickett:]
The ability to access nutritious food and the high cost of living is a huge barrier to health in the villages, and we’re seeing that in obesity. We’re seeing that in diabetes and, and all of those rates are increasing in the rural areas.
[Lindberg:]
Really? So what to do about that? I would have thought there was more exercise needed in a rural area than in the city.
[Pickett:]
Well, I think that we're finding that more people are relying on store-bought foods, and they don’t live the traditional lifestyle that they used to.
