The reason I have them see the psychologist first is that we found if people just came into a fitness program, a dietary program without psychologically being ready, it just fell apart. We have them see a psychologist to determine if there’s a readiness to change. If there isn’t, a psychologist works with them. It’s not that we throw them out. They work with them until there is a readiness. We have them see a registered dietician. In fact, one of the registered dietitians here is actually an herbalist as well, is able to talk to them about certain herbs and such that they may be using, or considering, or have heard about, can talk to them on that basis. I see them as the bariatric physician, work through that, and then what we decide is this— some medicines may help, maybe just a dietary fitness lifestyle program will help. In some patients they really are candidates for bariatric surgery, and we will refer them on to that service as well, and then follow-up with them later. It’s not that we lose track of them. They do come back to us and continue with our program after the surgery.
