Transcript: Senator Daniel Ken Inouye

Sen. Daniel Inouye, of Hawai‘i, reflects on the on the Native Sovereignty measure in Congress

[Lindberg:]
But in Hawai‘i will there be an opportunity for the Native Hawaiians to run hospitals?
[Inouye:]
I think so, because at this moment, the Congress of the United States is considering Native sovereignty measures, which would give them federal government recognition as we give to Indians. And once that is set up, I think one of the high priorities would be to set up a Native hospital to revive the practice of Native medicine, for example. I think that’s a good thing.
[Lindberg:]
Sounds like a good thing to me, too. You can make it happen, though. I can just tell you it’s a good thing.
[Inouye:]
That’s why we’re pushing very hard to get this bill passed.
