[Lindberg:]
What do the red crosses mean?
[Cook:]
The red crosses are the north and south and east and west, is the roads of hardship and of goodness, and where they cross in the middle is holy. And we’re always there at that place. So that’s the symbol behind it. Some may say in the Native American church sector, they’ll say, “Oh, that’s the crucifix. That’s the good Lord.” That’s all the— but there’s as much indigenous and Native as there is European and Christian in all of these symbolisms.
