- Cities destroy Native cultures. So at one level, at that really purely sociological kind of anthropological level, urban Indian is an oxymoron. That urban means separate from nature based on a certain kind of economy, based on a certain way of living, and Native is a different way, you know, based in nature, hunting, fishing, maybe farming, living communally in family-related— therefore, they don’t just seem to match that easily.
