The War on Poverty and the first time Indians were given an opportunity to manage money themselves

When the War on Poverty came about under President Lyndon Johnson, Congress appropriated money for grants to Indian tribes, and that was the first time in Indian history that I know of that Indians were given an opportunity to manage money themselves, instead of having the BIA do that for them.
