We see a lot of PTSD and severe mental illnesses in our clinic
- [Lindberg:]
- Well, Dr. Loeb, you know, currently people are talking more about post-traumatic stress syndrome as a possible cause for this sort of thing. Does this ever get discussed?
- [Loeb:]
- Oh, we see a lot of that on a daily basis and not only from the veterans—
- [Lindberg:]
- So you accept that interpretation then apparently?
- [Loeb:]
- Um-hum. And not only from the veterans, but we also see quite a number of people who basically escaped to Alaska to get out of dangerous situations, domestic violence kind of situations. The other thing that we see quite a bit of is substance abuse as well as severe mental illness. We have a very high percentage of bipolar disorder than I’ve ever seen in the lower 48 —schizoaffective disorder and definitely post-traumatic stress disorder.
