Many young people on the reservations don't know there is an alternative to drug abuse and poverty

[Lamsam:]
Some people, you know, do give up, and I think that children are born into that mindset. So they never know that they could go out and become a doctor, for instance.
[Lindberg:]
Yeah.
[Lamsam:]
And they never know that they could be successful, and all they know is the gang culture that has infiltrated a lot of reservations, and they know a life of, you know, extreme poverty and I think that a lot of people, though, it's not that they've given up, but it's just that they've never seen another option. And I think that's one of the key things for changing people's mindsets and their behavior ? is showing them that they do have another option, that they don't have to be a jobless person or they don't have to be homeless or they don't have to be poor.
