Every human being is creative

[Fernandez:]
Every human being is creative. I mean that’s why human beings are human beings; they create. But there are certain human beings that kind of make that creativity their living, and those are artists. So as you’re looking at an issue sometimes you find that you’re struggling with the issue year after year after year, and there are probably a lot of reasons why—human nature—but I think sometimes bringing artists in, you get a different perspective on something. So I always encourage people to bring artists into the planning process, just to get some different perspectives at times, some different ideas, different views of things, and especially as Native people with the cultural knowledge most artists have to develop, I think sometimes that can become a foundation of some of the things you do. So when in doubt, bring in an artist.
