Traditional healing addresses spirituality while modern medicine does not

[Lindberg:]
Well, in the case of diabetes if it’s really bad, you’ve got to have insulin.
[York:]
Yes.
[Lindberg:]
But before that if you lose weight, manage diet, manage exercise, you might get better anyway. Is that the type of thing that the Native healing would do?
[York:]
Not only that.
[Lindberg:]
What would they do?
[York:]
Native healing includes psychology—
[Lindberg:]
Sure.
[York:]
—and some spirituality as well. So I think by doing that process of healing it helps our people. Where if you go to a modern health center, then they’ll do a diagnosis and recommend treatment, and that’s about it. They really don’t go into what I consider spirituality.
