1763: Treaty of Paris ends war; Britain claims Native lands

England and France end the Seven Years’ War (1756–63, also called the French and Indian War). In the Treaty of Paris (also called the peace of Paris or the Treaty of 1763), France cedes its claims to most of North America east of the Mississippi to Britain. But in Ohio, the Ottawa chief Pontiac continues warring with the British over the taking of Native lands.
