1871: The U.S. ceases making treaties with tribes

When Congress passes a law ending the federal government’s practice of making treaties with Indian nations, nearly half of the treaties that the U.S. has negotiated with tribes have not been ratified by Congress. Of the ratified treaties, 24 promise some kind of health services to tribes.
