1886: Hawaiian plantation hospital opens in Kaua‘i

In the Hawaiian Islands, the first plantation hospital is established at Makaweli, Kaua‘i, to improve health conditions of indentured laborers including Native Hawaiians, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, Samoans, and workers of other nationalities.
