1905: Native Hawaiian healing practices are outlawed

While the Hawaiian monarchs swung back and forth between restricting Native healers, known as kahuna, or documenting their ancient healing practices, the government of the U.S. Territory of Hawai‘i outlaws them. It seeks to suppress the practice of Native Hawaiian culture and spirituality. Fines and imprisonment are the punishments, and the territorial government prosecutes respected kahunas.

The Revised Laws of Hawai‘i, Chapter 89, Section 1077, outlaws Hawaiian Native healers, known as kahuna.
