1997: Alaska Native consortium provides medical care, sanitation facilites

The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium, the largest tribal-run health care organization in the U.S., manages the statewide medical and public health services of the Alaska Native health care system. It oversees specialty medical care, construction of water and sanitation and health facilities, community health and research, and information technology. As the consortium’s website reports, “Village life is the heart of Alaska Native culture. Yet many small villages remain without essential services, such as clean water and sanitation services for homes.”
