1994: Open dumps on reservations targeted for cleanup

Garbage dumps on American Indian reservations are not operated according to current standards of health and safety. Congress funds cleanups and makes the Indian Health Service responsible for keeping an inventory of all open-dump sites on American Indian lands and prioritizing dumps for cleanup.

Funding for dump cleanups is authorized by the Indian Lands Open Dump Cleanup Act (P.L. 103-399).
