1998: ‘Aha Summit held in Honolulu on Native Hawaiian health

The Summit on Native Hawaiian Health and Wellness, called the ‘Aha Summit, meets in Honolulu. Its themes are: Think Community; Provide a Sense of Cultural Identity; Acknowledge Hawaiian Cultural Values; Strengthen the Family; Maintain a Holistic Approach to Wellness; Acknowledge Spiritual Roots; Include an Educational Component in all Programs; Consider how Hawaiians Learn; Continue Capacity Building Efforts; Provide Role Definition and Role Models; and Create More Pu‘uhonua.

An ‘aha is a meeting, assembly, or gathering. Pu‘uhonua means refuge or asylum.
