Appointments
Three Bring Extensive Education, Experience
Merlyn Rodrigues, MD,
PhD, serves as Scientific Review Administrator with
responsibility for the Biomedical Library Review Committee and all
other review functions of NLM. Dr. Rodrigues is a pathologist with
extensive experience at the National Eye Institute at NIH, the
University of Maryland Medical School in Baltimore, Wills Eye
Hospital and other organizations. Her extensive curriculum vitae
includes numerous publications, an award as Fulbright Scholar, and
extended editorial board service for the American Journal of
Ophthalmology. Dr. Rodrigues comes to NLM from the Food and Drug
Administration.
Valerie Florance, MLS,
PhD, serves as a program officer with responsibility for a
portfolio of grants including Integrated Advanced Information
Management Systems (IAIMS), other health science library resource
grants, and several categories of informatics research grants. Dr.
Florance has served as librarian at the University of Utah, Johns
Hopkins, and at the University of Rochester, where she was director
of the health science library. Prior to joining NLM, she was
principal investigator at the Association of American Medical
Colleges for a project considering the past and future of IAIMS.
Carol Bean, PhD, is a
Special Expert, with responsibility for a portfolio of grants
focusing on informatics research and training. Dr. Bean also has
master's degrees in medical informatics (NLM's program at Columbia
University), information science, and epidemiology and
biostatistics. She has worked at NLM previously as an Information
Scientist in the Cognitive Science Branch of the Lister Hill Center.
Prior to joining NLM, Dr. Bean was at the School of Information
Sciences, University of Tennessee. |
