- The Medical Library Association has chosen NLM's MEDLINEplus
for inclusion in its Top Ten Most Useful Websites. MLA's Consumer
and Patient Health Information Section (CAPHIS) evaluates websites
based on: credibility, sponsorship/authorship, content, audience,
currency, disclosure, purpose, links, design, interactivity and
disclaimers. You can view the other top sites at http://mlanet.org/resources/medspeak/topten.html.
- NLM has received a commendation from the Government Printing
Office (GPO) Depository Library Council. The commendation was for
a 2000 partnership agreement signed between GPO and NLM, assuring
permanent public access to many NLM titles. The agreement also
includes coverage of important online resources such as PubMed. In
signing the agreement, NLM acknowledged the Federal Depository
Library Program (FDLP) as one of its dissemination partners and
has agreed to keep the online publications available indefinitely.
The agreement exemplifies the Council's desire and the stated
Electronic Collection Plan goal that GPO partner with agencies to
assure permanent public access to federal government information.
- Macworld, the magazine for users of Macintosh computer
products, bestowed one of its "Macworld Web Awards" on
MEDLINEplus. The announcement, in the March 2001 issue, hailed the
website as "a comprehensive reference tool for all your medical
questions. The information is up-to-date and authoritative..."
