1957: Emergency sanitation project becomes model for all reservations

Congress funds an emergency sanitation project for the Elko Colony in Elko, Nevada, of the Te-Moak Tribe of Western Shoshone Indians. The program includes community participation and becomes the pilot project for expanding sanitation services to other reservations.
