How PubMed Works is a series of four 90-minute classes with live demonstrations, hands-on exercises, and Q&A time with PubMed experts. The classes are intended for librarians, other information professionals, and anyone interested in going in-depth about PubMed. It's suitable for participants brand new to PubMed and those who want a refresh.

Register for each class you'd like to attend. Earn 1.5 Medical Library Association (MLA) continuing education credits for each class you attend.

How PubMed Works: Introduction

  • In this class:
    • Learn what PubMed is and what's in it.
    • Practice how to find articles by a specific author or about a specific subject.
    • Review PubMed features like the Advanced Search Builder and Search History and Details.

  • February 21, 2024, 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. EST
  • In this class:
    • Review the selection criteria for the different components of PubMed, including MEDLINE and PubMed Central (PMC).
    • View tools for assisting your patrons with evaluating the quality of publications.
    • Ask MEDLINE and PMC staff your questions.

  • In this class:
    • Explore the MeSH database, the National Library of Medicine's controlled vocabulary used for indexing MEDLINE articles.
    • Go in-depth about the 4 different types of MeSH terms.
