Sequence Read Archive Data Status Change. NLM Tech Bull. 2023 Mar-Apr;(451):e4.

2023 March 29 [posted]

Earlier this year, the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), part of the National Library of Medicine (NLM), introduced the GenBank and SRA Data Processing webpage to provide more information on how genomic sequence data are submitted, processed, and made publicly available in these databases. NCBI also shared its intention to re-review requests for status changes of SARS-CoV-2 and mpox sequence data during the recent public health emergencies to ensure consistency with newly aligned data processing procedures across the two databases.

As a result of this re-review, NCBI has updated the status of 25 SARS-CoV-2 sequences from 'withdrawn' to 'suppressed,' consistent with the description of those terms in the data processing procedures. These sequences, which had been removed from public view, are now publicly accessible via their accession numbers. The 25 affected sequences are noted below.

Range of sequence accession numbers are: SRR12833807 through SRR12833815, SRR12833844 through SRR12833849, SRR13194935, SRR12896326, SRR12897210, SRR12897214, SRR12897236, SRR13765902, SRR14351831, SRR12003637, SRR12003643, SRR13075049, and SRR11149660

These revisions complete the review of status changes among the more than 3 million SARS-CoV-2 and mpox sequences that were submitted to SRA during the public health emergencies. NCBI is now reviewing status changes to sequences submitted to GenBank. Any changes in status of GenBank sequence data based on this effort will be announced in the NLM Technical Bulletin.
