Patricia Bosma and Dianne McCutcheon Appointed Section Heads in Library's Technical Services Division

Two Former NLM Associates Have Had Distinguished Careers

Library Operations announces the appointment of Patricia A. Bosma as head of the Selection and Acquisition Section, Technical Services Division, and Dianne E. McCutcheon as head of the Serial Records Section, Technical Services Division. Both appointments were effective June 20th.

Bosma had served as Assistant Head of S/A, the section responsible for acquiring books and audiovisual materials for the NLM's modern collection, since December 1980. After the retirement of Brenda Swanson in 1997, she served as interim head until her permanent appointment this June. In addition to administrative duties, Bosma has had primary responsibility for fiscal control and automation activities within the section. She also participated as a member of the team responsible for implementation of the Voyager integrated library system in the fall of 1998.

Bosma holds a BS in psychology and sociology from Towson State College and an MLS degree in library and information science from the University of Maryland. After working in private industry, she completed the NLM Library Associate program in 1976-77. She then spent three years as head of the Collection Maintenance Unit in the Public Services Division. She is a member of the American Library Association and ALA's Association for Library Collections and Technical Services.

Like Patricia Bosma, Dianne McCutcheon is a veteran of almost 20 years at NLM and came to the Library to participate in the Library Associate program in 1978-79. After her Associate year, McCutcheon worked in S/A and in NLM's National Medical Audiovisual Center. Leaving NLM for two years to serve as a hospital librarian in Ohio, she returned in 1983 as a systems librarian in the Serial Records Section. Appointed Assistant Section Head in 1990, she played an active role in the evolution of SERHOLD, the National Biomedical Holdings Database.

From 1997 to 1999, as a special assistant in the Office of the Director for Library Operations, McCutcheon led the LO effort to select and implement an integrated library system. She completed this assignment with the recent successful implementation of the Voyager ILS. As head of Serial Records, she succeeds William Willmering, who retired at the end of March.

McCutcheon holds a BA in psychology from Cleveland State University and an MS in library science from the University of Illinois School of Library Science. She is active professionally both in the Medical Library Association and the North American Serials Interest Group.
