NLM Honor Awards
November's Annual Ceremony Recognizes NLM's Best
As sure as November brings Veterans Day and turkey with all the
trimmings, it brings the annual NLM Honor Awards.
This year's standing-room-only ceremony, held November 23rd in
the Lister Hill Auditorium, saluted excellence, innovation, special
achievement and length of service.
One person who exemplified the latter was Dr. James H. Cassedy,
who received his 50-year pin for federal service at the awards
ceremony. (Please see related story, below.)
Individual and group awards for sustained superior performance or
special acts or service went to 110 employees. Forty NLM staffers
received length-of- service awards.
Other staff members who had received prizes from prestigious
organizations outside the Library were also acknowledged for their
achievements.
NLM Director Dr. Donald A.B. Lindberg welcomed the audience and
awardees, and sized up 1999 as a year of notable accomplishments.
Among these, the opening of the "Breath of Life" exhibition, the
launch of the LOCATORplus online catalog, the renovation of public
areas of Building 38, and the presentation of the Hammer Award to
NLM.
