NLM Rolls Out New Exhibit Booth at MLA Meeting
Plasma Screen, Steel Truss System Creates Stylish, High-Tech
Look
When you're an institution that's known for its technical
innovations, you've got to present yourself that way to the public.
Such thinking (and a past-its- prime, 15-year-old exhibit booth)
prompted the NLM to create a whole new look for the display it uses
at conventions and meetings.
The new NLM booth debuted at the Medical Library Association
annual meeting in Chicago in May and is traveling the nation,
popping up at functions attended by staff from several NLM
divisions. The futuristic design is clean and spare. Paper has been
largely eliminated from the booth, in deference to the extensive
information available at the NLM web site (www.nlm.nih.gov).

The focal point of the exhibit is a large "plasma screen," used
to project computer screens, videos and other media. Two laptop
computers are also part of the set-up, allowing NLM staff to
demonstrate the programs and services of the Library.
"The new booth has achieved its objective in creating more
traffic," observed Karen Hajarian, Director of MEDLARS Promotion,
Bibliographic Services Division. "People have clearly been attracted
to the booth's high-tech look and their stopping by to comment has
given us the opportunity to be sure they are aware of NLM's products
and services." Hajarian coordinated the booth redesign project.
