Native American Youth Visit NLM
Thirty Tribes Represented
On June 22, NLM was one of the sites hosting 42 students and ten
counselors who were participating in the 1999 National Native
American Youth Initiative Summer Program. The Association of
American Indian Physicians offers a health, biomedical research and
policy development program for Native American high school students.
The program is designed to motivate and encourage Native American
students between 16 and 18 years old to pursue a career in the
health professions and/or biomedical research. The students, who
represented 18 states and 30 tribes, spent the morning at NLM. They
were given a tour of the Library and were introduced to HTML
training, the History of Medicine Division, and the Learning Center
for Interactive Technology. |
