Dr. Mary Moore Appointed to Head NLM Associate Fellowship
Program
Brings Extensive Experience in Health Sciences Libraries,
Education
Mary Moore, PhD, Dean of Library and Information Resources and
Professor, College of Communications at Arkansas State University
(ASU), has been named the coordinator of the Associate Fellowship
program, NLM's post-masters degree training and internship program
for health sciences librarians. She will also advise NLM on matters
related to distance education and the role of health sciences
librarians in telemedicine programs. Dr. Moore will also be
gathering information to assist ASU in exploring the development of
a doctoral program in knowledge management and in planning its
digital library initiatives.
Dr. Moore has a BA and MA in Library and Information Sciences
from the University of Missouri, Columbia. She received her PhD in
Library and Information Science from the University of Texas at
Austin, where her research focused on diffusion of information
innovations. Dr. Moore has extensive experience in health sciences
libraries, including management of public services and educational
programs. She served as Health Care Program Manager for VTEL
Corporation, a major manufacturer of interactive video technology,
from 1994 to 1996. In addition to her current appointment in ASU's
College of Communications, Dr. Moore has taught courses on
information networks, Internet issues, and World Wide Web tools to
graduate library students at the University of Texas at Austin. She
has published and lectured widely on telemedicine and on the role of
the library and the use of technology in continuing education and
outreach.
Dr. Moore is the first in what NLM's Library Operations office
hopes will be a series of distinguished visitors who will bring
outside perspectives to the NLM Associate Fellowship program while
also assisting NLM with a variety of other initiatives. She comes to
the Library on a special one-year appointment.
In announcing Dr. Moore's appointment, NLM Associate Director for
Library Operations Betsy L. Humphreys also commended Stacey Arnesen,
Technical Information Specialist in NLM's Specialized Information
Services Division, for her superb performance as interim Associate
Program Coordinator since January 2000. Arnesen, who is co-chair of
the NLM Associate Faculty, will continue to assist with program
coordination during the transition period. |
