NLM Releases Strategic Plan to Reduce Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities, 2000-2005

Plan Supports NIH Mission, Emphasizes Research, Outreach

NLM has released a new blueprint for reducing racial and ethnic health disparities. The document, available from the NLM web site, notes that NLM "now has the opportunity to provide near-instantaneous reliable access to high quality health information resources and content when and where they are needed for research, education and patient care.

Among the many goals are to advance understanding of the development and progression of disease that contributes to health disparities, to support research training and career development, and to communicate research-based information to increase public awareness and/or change personal health habits.

The report can be downloaded at www.nlm.nih.gov/nn.html. From that menu, select, under "Announcements," NLM Strategic Plan to Reduce Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities.
