NLM Tech Bull. 2019 Jan-Feb;(426):e1.
On November 5, 2018, the National Library of Medicine (NLM) released DOCLINE 6.0 (see Figure 1). It is a completely new, re-engineered replacement for the existing system which was originally released in 2000.
DOCLINE 6.0 ensures that all DOCLINE libraries use a secure login. Existing users were contacted to register for DOCLINE 6.0. If your library did not register and you want to use DOCLINE 6.0, you must create a new Google account and connect your Google account to your DOCLINE library. Please see the DOCLINE FAQs and the Transition to DOCLINE 6.0 pages for documentation and step-by-step instructions. Questions about these processes should be sent to the NLM Support Center.
Preventing unauthorized access to the DOCLINE system is our top priority. Management of login credentials using a Google Account login via iTrust ensures your privacy (see Figure 2). iTrust is vetted by the National Institutes of Health and is currently used to manage electronic access to personally identifiable information and research data, has an existing privacy policy, and is subject to U.S. and European law. The NLM privacy policy is available on the NLM website.
Borrowing and lending (see Figure 3) will begin in DOCLINE 6.0 with the next release, scheduled for early 2019. Borrowing requests, including those for indexed articles or books, will be placed using either the PubMed ID (PMID) or manual request methods.
We welcome your feedback. Your comments will help shape future improvements and features. Enhancements will be added on a continuous basis and will include reports, activity summary data, contact library functionality, and additional requesting methods. New features will be announced as they are released.
Please send feedback and questions to the NLM Support Center or your DOCLINE coordinator.
