RxNorm December 2018 Release

RxNorm December 2018 Release. NLM Tech Bull. 2018 Nov-Dec;(425):b6.

2018 December 03 [posted]

The December 2018 full monthly release of RxNorm is available for download as of Monday, December 3, 2018, from the RxNorm Download Files page. The December release includes several content changes.

  • RxNorm now includes nonproprietary biologic substance names with four letter suffixes from the DailyMed indexing file. These biologic product names are in the FDA Structured Product Labeling (MTHSPL) source terminology with the term type of SU (TTY = SU).
  • RxNorm also includes a new ingredient term type (TTY = IN) in the Gold Standard Drug Database (GS) source terminology. Five GS term types are now available: BD, CD, MTH_RXN_BD, MTH_RXN_CD, and IN.

As a reminder, the December 2018 monthly release of RxNorm is the last release to include Veterans Health Administration’s National Drug File – Reference Terminology (NDF-RT). Beginning in 2019, RxNorm will no longer include NDF-RT. Please plan accordingly.

Medication Reference Terminology (MED-RT) replaces NDF-RT. There are no plans to include MED-RT in RxNorm; however, MED-RT is included in the UMLS Metathesaurus along with RxNorm and its source vocabularies. MED-RT is also included in several RxNorm API resources. For more information about MED-RT, see Introduction to MED-RT as the Replacement for NDF-RT.
