Web-based Information Resource Created for National Nutrition Summit

Latest Entry in CBM Series Also Links to Internet Sites

NLM has put on the Web a 5,498-citation bibliography titled National Nutrition Summit: Information Resources. The work was prepared by NLM librarians for the National Nutrition Summit, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Department of Health and Human Services, held in Washington D.C. May 30-31, 2000.

The National Nutrition Summit highlighted accomplishments since a 1969 White House Conference, and identified challenges and emerging opportunities for the Nation in the areas of food security, nutrition, and health. The NLM bibliography was prepared to provide an overview and background of the broad subject, and does not purport to be comprehensive. The references are from professional journals and monographs, newspapers, and legal materials, and the bibliography also contains links to Internet sites. The focus of the bibliography is the United States, and most of the references are to materials in English. The coverage is 1970 to the present.

Not only are there links to Internet sites, but there are PubMed links to many of the journal citations so that the user may retrieve an abstract. Another new feature is that the bibliography is offered in both HTML and PDF formats. The HTML version is up on the Library's Web site now; the PDF version will be available by the time of the National Nutrition Summit (May 30-31). Users can download the PDF version and print a high- quality, formatted paper bibliography.

The bibliography is number 2000-3 in the Current Bibliographies in Medicine series and is on the Web at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/pubs/cbm/nutritionsummit.html.
