The NLM Classification Editorial Committee’s activities include:

  • Systematic reviews of selected schedules.
  • Additions/changes to the Index based on new or replaced Medical Subject Headings (MeSH).
  • Verification of selected LCC class numbers used in the Index.
  • Resolution of classification problems raised by NLM catalogers and customers.
  • Consultation of outside subject experts/medical librarians before major changes to the schedules are made, if needed.

There are two major divisions of the NLM Classification: Schedules and Index.
