Publications (monographs and serials) consisting of bibliographies are classed by subject. Select the classification number that best fits the overall topic of the bibliography, and which corresponds to the primary subject heading assigned.

Within Scope of the NLM Classification

If the class number falls within the scope of the NLM Classification, preface the class number with a capital "Z" with no space in between the letter "Z" and the other letters.

Example

The NLM Classification Number for chronic disease is QZ 185. A monograph with lists of works on chronic disease is ZQZ 185. MeSH Subjects include Chronic Disease and Bibliography.

Outside the Scope of the NLM Classification

If the class number falls outside the scope of the NLM Classification, generally use the LCC Z schedule for bibliography, Z 1001-Z 9000, with a space in between the letter "Z" and the number.

Example

A monograph with lists of works on information sources in science is Z 7401. MeSH Subjects include Science and Bibliography.
