Traveling to a Library Near You - Changing the Face of Medicine: Celebrating America’s Women Physicians
The National Library of Medicine in conjunction with the American Library Association has launched a traveling exhibition about the history of women physicians called Changing the Face of Medicine. The traveling exhibition is an adaptation of the 4,000 sq ft exhibition on display in the National Library of Medicine from October 2003 - November 2005.
The traveling version features two computer kiosks that showcase the multimedia features of the original exhibition, including short films about women physicians past and present, educational activities, and career resources. At each venue, host institutions will also offer special events related to the topic of women in medicine for the general public. By the end of 2010, Changing the Face of Medicine will have traveled to 61 libraries across America. You can see the full schedule of the tour at: Changing the Face of Medicine: Celebrating America's Women Physicians Exhibition Itinerary.

Frankenstein: Penetrating the Secrets of Nature
This traveling exhibition is based upon a major project produced by the National Library of Medicine in 1997-1998. The exhibition encourages audiences to examine the intent of Mary Shelley's novel, Frankenstein, and to discuss Shelley's and their own views about personal and societal responsibility as it relates to science and other areas of life.
Frankenstein traveled to 80 libraries across the country between October 2002 and December 2005. In addition to the exhibition, participating libraries hosted interpretive and educational programs that helped audiences examine Mary Shelley's novel and how it uses scientific experimentation as metaphor to comment on cultural values, especially the importance of exercising responsibility toward individuals and the community in all areas of human activity, including science.
Frankenstein: Penetrating the Secrets of Nature was developed by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) in collaboration with the American Library Association Public Programs Office. It was made possible by major grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), Washington, D.C., and the National Library of Medicine, Bethesda, MD.
This exhibition is available for loan. Please contact Jill Newmark for more information.
