The National Center for Health Statistics, conducts nationally representative surveys to collect data on Health Care from various settings. These surveys are designed to collect information about the use of health care, quality of care, safety, and disparities.
  • Administrative records have the advantage of coming directly from an interaction between a patient and the health care system
  • A disadvantage is that these analyses are limited to the information recorded in the course of providing care.
    • These case records may include the codes used to justify insurance claims which might have been influenced by the rules for obtaining payment.
    • They are collected to support medical service rather than compile statistics.
    • Reliant on the efforts of busy care givers who may have other more pressing needs than the accurate recording of statistical data
