Letter to Russell E. Train of the EPA, from Peter MacDonald, chairman of the Navajo Tribal Council, November 9, 1973
In 1973, the Navajo Nation requested assistance from the newly established Environmental Protection Agency, the Atomic Energy Commission, and the Indian Health Service to conduct radiation surveys of tribal land near the abandoned uranium mines.
The effort to clean up abandoned uranium mines on Navajo land continues today.
