Charles R. Drew, M.D.

Charles R. Drew, M.D., (1904–1950) was a leading surgeon, educator, and pioneer in the preservation of blood. He was a professor of surgery and chair of the Department of Surgery at Howard University College of Medicine from 1941 to 1950. Under his leadership and broad vision, the department of surgery experienced enormous growth. An inspirational, stimulating, and dynamic teacher, Dr. Drew’s far-reaching influence can still be felt today.
