This release of RxNorm is consistent with the 2014AB UMLS Metathesaurus release. For additional information about RxNorm releases, including scripts for loading the RxNorm data into Oracle and MySQL databases, read the RxNorm technical documentation.

Data Changes
RxNorm editors will no longer be creating branded forms (TTY=SBD) for over-the-counter cold, cough, and flu drugs that meet the following criteria:
- have three or more ingredients
- do not contain any of the following ingredients:
- Codeine
- Codeine phosphate
- Hydrocodone
- Hydrocodone bitartrate
- contain at least two of the following ingredients (either base or precise):
- Acetaminophen
- Brompheniramine
- Carbinoxamine
- Chlorpheniramine
- Dextromethorphan
- Doxylamine
- Guaifenesin
- Phenylephrine
- Phenylpropanolamine
- Pseudoephedrine
- do not have a SAB=MTHSPL label type of 'Human Prescription Drug Label'
NLM is deprecating certain semantic types that are infrequently used. Beginning with this release, RXCUIs that are categorized with these deprecated semantic types will be re-categorized with the parent semantic type. The table below lists the semantic types that will no longer exist as of this release as well as the replacement semantic type in each case. Please note that there are no new semantic types being created as a result of this effort.
