September Release - 09/05/2017

This release of RxNorm is consistent with the 2017AA UMLS Metathesaurus release. For additional information about RxNorm releases, including scripts for loading the RxNorm data into Oracle and MySQL databases, read the RxNorm technical documentation.

Data Changes

Medi-Span Data Added
A more comprehensive Medi-Span (MDDB) data set is now included in RxNorm.

Changes to MDDB data include the CODE field values. Before the September release, RxNorm used the GPPC-5 as the MDDB CODE field value for TTY = CD. GPPC-5 contains the first 5 characters of a GPPC (Generic Product Packaging Code).

With the September release and onward, the MDDB CODE field value for TTY = CD, BD, MTH_RXN_BD, and MTH_RXN_CD is the Medi-Span Drug Descriptor Identifier (DDID) from MDDB’s Drug Name File MF2NAME. The OID full name is MDDID (Medi-Span Drug Descriptor ID). For TTY = IN, the Ingredient Drug ID from MDDB’s MF2IDRG file is used as the CODE field value. Also, RxNorm no longer includes GPPC-5. RxNorm now represents the full GPPC as an attribute in RXNSAT.
