• Provides authoritative bibliographic and authority records required for the NLM collection, other NLM programs, and the U.S. Cataloging-in-Publication (CIP) Program
• Provides preliminary record creation and maintenance for NLM programs (GENBANK, NIHMS, PMC, LSTRC, Bookshelf, CIT Videocasts)
• Distributes machine-readable records in MARC and XML formats
• Provides metadata mapping and services for bibliographic and authority data
• Maintains the NLM Classification
• Manages the cataloging contracts
• Assists biomedical libraries by providing cataloging copy, training materials, and updates on cataloging policies, procedures and trends
• Participates in national and international bibliographic control programs and standards development
