Unified Medical Language System® (UMLS®)

2012AA MEDLINEPLUS Source Information

Skip to: Atoms, Attributes, Definitions, Relationships, Hierarchy, Mappings

VSAB: MEDLINEPLUS_20111228

Summary of Changes:

MRCONSO.RRF:

Removed atom "MedlinePlus Health Topics" (TTY = HT) .  This atom, which was created during Metathesaurus processing, was not necessary since Local Topics are no longer released.

Changed TTY for "Groups" from PT to HT

Assigned SDUI to Groups (HTs)

MRREL.RRF:

Relationships between MSH qualifiers and MEDLINEPLUS atoms were incorrectly being labeled as RQ/mapped_from

New REL/RELA:
RT/mapping_qualifier_of between TQ and MEDLINEPLUS atom

Dropped REL/RELA:
RQ/mapped_from between TQ and MEDLINEPLUS atom

Corrected STYPE values:
STYPE1 and STYPE2 are now set to SDUI for hierarchical (PAR/CHD/SIB) and other relationships.  Previously these were AUI <--> AUI or AUI <--> CODE.

Corrected relationship group assignments:
Many rels were being assigned RG=1, but it should have been null.  This resulted in many rels being grouped together incorrectly.  The RG value has been changed to null as appropriate.

MRSAT.RRF

Dropped ATN:
DateCreated:  This ATN was replaced by "DATE_CREATED" in META2011AA

Change in MRSAT.STYPE:

Attributes which previously had STYPE="CODE" now have STYPE="SDUI":
    DATE_CREATED
    GROUP_URL
    URL

Source-Provided Files: Summary

(return to top) The UMLS uses MedlinePlus xml files downloaded from http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/xml.html

For 2012AA, the files used were:
  • mplus_vocab_2011-12-28.xml
  • mplus_vocab_2011-01-08.xml

Notes:

  • Only English language records (langcode="English") are processed for the Metathesaurus.  Spanish language records (langcode="Spanish") are not included.
  •  Even when duplicated, both ETs and SYs are included for complete representation of the source.

(no rela) Hierarchy created from the <GroupID> tag values in mplus_vocab_YYYY-MM-DD.xml

RQ
(no rela)
Connect ET atoms to PT atoms
RQ
mapped_from
mapped_to
Connect PT atoms to MeSH Descriptor (if present). Note: Because the combination of the Descriptor and Qualifier taken together represent the expressed relationship, the pair of rels are given a relationship group to link them together.
RO
mapping_qualifier_of

Connect PT atoms to MeSH Qualifier (if present). Note: Because the combination of the Descriptor and Qualifier taken together represent the expressed relationship, the pair of rels are given a relationship group to link them together.
SY (no rela)
Connect SY atoms to PT atoms

Hierarchy (MRHIER):

The hierarchy is created by connecting a Medical Topic with its Medical Topic Group using <GroupID> tag values in mplus_vocab_YYYY-MM-DD.xml.

Mappings (MRMAP):

No mappings are represented for MedlinePlus.
