积极防治结核病锻炼身 (Actively Prevent and Treat Tuberculosis), Wuhan Tuberculosis Hospital, 1978

In 1965, a massive public health campaign used posters touting “barefoot doctors,” who served China’s peasant population. These posters often represented the barefoot doctor as a woman carrying a nurse’s bag, signified by the red cross on the front, and an object related to farming, in the case of this poster it is a hoe being carried over the woman’s shoulder.

This calendar poster emphasizes the universal use of BCG vaccines for children, early discovery and treatment of TB, and isolation and disinfection as ways of prevention.
