The Perioperative Nursing Data Set (PNDS) was developed and is maintained by the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN).
PNDS is a standardized perioperative nursing vocabulary that describes diagnoses, interventions, and patient outcomes.
PNDS contains 74 nursing diagnoses; 133 nursing interventions; and 28 nurse-sensitive patient outcomes. Links are expressed between diagnoses and outcomes and interventions and outcomes.
PNDS outcomes are organized into five domains. The domains are Behavioral Responses – Patient and Family: Knowledge, Behavioral Responses – Patient and Family: Rights/Ethics, Health Safety, Physiologic Responses, and Safety.
The Health Safety domain does not include any outcomes.
PNDS outcomes and interventions include descriptive text and examples as attribute data.
PNDS is used by nurses and clinicians involved in the field of perioperative care.
