The COmputer STored Ambulatory Record (COSTAR) was developed at the Laboratory of Computer Science of the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH).

COSTAR is a modular medical information system used in a variety of healthcare settings for patient registration, medical records, accounts receivable, report generation, and appointment scheduling.

The Metathesaurus representation of COSTAR includes approximately 3,500 terms occurring frequently at three COSTAR implementation sites, which were supplied by MGH.
