Multum Source Information
The Multum Medisource Lexicon was created and is maintained by Multum, a medical information company.
The Lexicon is used to improve patient safety when drugs are prescribed.
The Lexicon is a foundational database with comprehensive drug product and disease nomenclature information. It includes drug names, drug product information, disease names, coding systems such as ICD-9-CM and NDC, generic names, brand names and common abbreviations. A comprehensive list of standard or customized disease names and ICD-9 codes is also included.
The Metathesaurus representation of the Lexicon includes only branded clinical drugs, clinical drugs, generic drugs, ingredients, medical supplies, and brand names.
The Metathesaurus representation of the Lexicon contains approximately:
- 27,698 branded clinical drugs
- 20,969 brand names
- 12,390 clinical drugs
- 3,339 generic drugs
- 2,761 ingredients
- 11,165 medical supplies
The Lexicon is used by physicians, hospitals, pharmacies, health websites, and consumers.
The Lexicon is updated monthly.
Metathesaurus Update Frequency
The Lexicon is updated in each Metathesaurus release as part of RxNorm.
