Sam Kennefick Wilairat | 2021-2022 NLM Associate Fellow

 

Sam Kennefick Wilairat

Sam Kennefick Wilairat received her MLIS from San Jose State University in May 2021. While obtaining the degree, Sam worked as a graduate assistant at the Strauss Health Sciences Library on the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. At the Strauss Library, she taught library classes, conducted research consultations with nursing students, provided reference services, and worked on research projects. Sam was also a Frictionless Data for Reproducible Research Fellow at the Open Knowledge Foundation from 2020 to 2021. At the Open Knowledge Foundation, she learned to use tools that support Open Science principles. Sam holds a BS in Biology from Gonzaga University and a MA in Teaching from the University of Portland. At the NLM, Sam is developing a recommended standard citation format for ClinicalTrials.gov records and is contributing to the Associate Fellows’ group project assessing the diversity of journals within PubMed. Luke Kudryashov | 2021-2022 NLM Associate Fellow

 

Luke Kudryashov

Luke Kudryashov received his MSI from the University of Michigan in May 2021. He has a background in user experience research and design, digital accessibility, participatory design, and health equity. At the NLM, Luke is leading an LGBTQ+ consumer health information social media campaign, evaluating the NIH Coursera Data Science Training Program, and learning to apply text mining methods to bibliometric analysis of the diversity of PubMed collections. After the fellowship, Luke hopes to work in user experience and accessibility at an academic or government library. Luke also holds a BA in English and Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies from the University of Pennsylvania and an MA in English Language and Literature from the University of Michigan.

 

Simone Stone  | 2021-2022 NLM Associate Fellow

 

Simone Stone

Simone Stone received her MLIS from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in May 2021. Simone worked at Chicago Public Library as a Teen and Children’s Library Associate. Simone worked at the Undergraduate Library at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign, receiving a marketing grant to market the Bring Your Own Book Club Plus program for all students. The Bring Your Own Book Club Plus was a program designed in partnership with the Residence Hall Libraries.  At NLM, Simone led several projects ranging from a use assessment of an NIH-wide data science training program, to an exploration of open educational resources for the NLM/NCBI Bookshelf. Simone is collaborating with her cohort on a group project analyzing the diversity of journals in PMC and MEDLINE. After the fellowship, Simone plans to work in either an academic or special library, focusing on health literacy, promoting open access, and student or community engagement. Simone earned her BA in Film and Media Studies and Geography from Dartmouth College and a MFA in Film and Television Producing  from Chapman University.

 

 

Frank Vitale | 2021-2022 NLM Associate Fellow

 

Frank Vitale

Frank Vitale received his MLIS from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in May 2021. His professional interests include digital libraries and archives, the history of medicine, community outreach and engagement, and the digital humanities. At the NLM, Frank is spearheading an analysis of the library’s interagency cooperative agreement with the National Endowment for the Humanities, and is part of the Associate Fellows’ research into the diversity of collections within PubMed. Frank hopes to transition into librarianship in an academic or government setting after completing the NLM Associate Fellowship, and has been named a 2022 Finalist in the Presidential Management Fellowship program. Frank also holds a BA in History from Dickinson College and an MSc in the History of Science, Medicine, and Technology from the University of Oxford. https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7756-0124.
