• 2012AB UMLS Release Available on UTS

  You may now browse the 2012AB Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) Release on the UMLS Terminology Services ( UTS) from the Applications menu, Metathesaurus Browser.

• VSAC Users Listserv

  NLM_VSAC_UPDATES is a new announcement-only listserv for Value Set Authority Center (VSAC) users.  The e-mail list will send announcements of new releases and other communications related to the activities of the VSAC.  To sign up, go to the NLM_VSAC_UPDATES homepage.

• UTS API 2.0 Tutorial
  December 17, 2012
  “Installing the UTS API 2.0” is a new tutorial for users of the UTS API 2.0, which launched in May 2012.  For more information about the API, see UTS API 2.0 Beta Launch.

• New CMT Downloads Available
  December 17, 2012
  The ENT, Gastrointestinal, Infectious Diseases Problem List Subset (CMT) is available for download. The subset includes 3,584 concepts.

  The CMT Enterprise Terminology Tool (ETT) is a new download available from NLM. Kaiser Permanente uses the ETT for the creation, management and quality assurance of its terminology products such as the CMT subsets. The ETT is an installation of the IHTSDO Workbench. Note: NLM does not provide technical support for the ETT.

• Updated SNOMED CT Browsers Page

  The SNOMED CT Browsers Web page now includes a link to the newly released IHTSDO Guidance on Provision of Publicly Available SNOMED CT Browsers and Related Services (PDF).  All publicly available SNOMED CT browsers must comply with the rules outlined in the guidance document.

• SNOMED CT®: Spanish Release, October 2012
  October 31, 2012
  The Spanish edition of the SNOMED CT: International Release, July 2012, is available for download. The download contains files in both Release Format 1 (RF1) and the new Release Format 2 (RF2) versions.

• NLM Launches Value Set Authority Center (VSAC)
  October 26, 2012
  NLM, in collaboration with the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), has launched the NLM Value Set Authority Center (VSAC). Initially the VSAC will provide downloadable access to all official versions of vocabulary value sets contained in the 2014 Clinical Quality Measures. • NLM Ceasing Production of UMLS DVD
  October 5, 2012
  Beginning with the 2013AA Release in May 2013, NLM will stop production of the UMLS DVD. Licensees must then download the UMLS files from the UMLS Terminology Services (UTS) system.

  The updated US Extension to SNOMED CT is available for download. The download now includes files in both SNOMED CT Release Format 1 (RF1) and Release Format 2 (RF2) versions.

• IHTSDO Affiliate Forum Invites Nominations for Standing Committees Due September 1, 2012
  August 15, 2012
  Call for Nominations: The IHTSDO Affiliate Forum (AF) is soliciting nominations for an AF representative on each of the four IHTSDO Standing Committees – Content, Quality Assurance, Implementation & Innovation, and Technical. Nominees must be either Affiliate Licensees or a recognized representative of an Affiliate Licensee organization, and must also register as members of the Affiliate Forum. Nominees will serve a two-year period beginning on January 1, 2013. To nominate a person, download the appropriate nomination form and send the completed form to info@ihtsdo.org. Nominations are due to the IHTSDO by September 1, 2012.

• SNOMED CT® to ICD-10 Cross Maps – Technology Preview Release
  August 9, 2012
  The IHTSDO released the Technology Preview of SNOMED CT to ICD-10 cross maps. The cross maps support epidemiological, statistical, and administrative reporting and are available for download on the UMLS Web site. The contents map July 2010 SNOMED CT to ICD-10 second edition (2008).

• Update to SNOMED CT®: International Release, July 2012
  August 9, 2012
  The IHTSDO released an updated version of the July 2012 International Release. The update corrects errors in the RF1 Relationships file (sct1_Relationships_Core_INT_20120731.txt) and replaces the previously released version. It is available for download on the UMLS Web site as of August 9. Users should download and use the updated file.

  The July 2012 International Release of SNOMED CT is available for download from both the SNOMED CT and Downloads menus of the UTS. The download contains SNOMED CT files in both Release Format 1 (RF1) and the new Release Format 2 (RF2) versions. Additionally, updated RF2 to RF1 compatibility tools are available for download from the same Web page.

• NLM Invites Nominations for IHTSDO Standing Committees Due June 29, 2012

  Call for Nominations: As the U.S. Member of the IHTSDO, the NLM is soliciting nominations of potential candidates for the four IHTSDO Standing Committees – Content, Quality Assurance, Implementation & Innovation, and Technical. These committees have important roles in the ongoing development of the SNOMED CT clinical terminology and in the IHTSDO. • ADA and IHTSDO Agree to Licensing Arrangements
  June 4, 2012
  The American Dental Association (ADA) and the IHTSDO announce a licensing agreement to incorporate ADA dental diagnostic codes into SNOMED CT. The ADA Systematized Nomenclature of Dentistry (SNODENT) will be included in the SNOMED CT International Release. As part of this agreement, the IHTSDO Content Committee will form an International Dentistry Specialty Interest Group (Dental SIG).

• 2012AA UMLS Release available on UTS
  June 4, 2012
  The 2012AA edition of the UMLS Knowledge Sources is available for searching on the UTS Metathesaurus Browser. The browser is available from the Applications menu of the UTS.

  The updated SNOMED CT CORE Problem List Subset is available for download from both the SNOMED CT and Downloads menus of the UTS.

• ICD-9-CM to SNOMED CT® Map
  May 16, 2012
  The new ICD-9-CM to SNOMED CT Map is available for download by UMLS licensees. The map will facilitate the translation of legacy ICD-9-CM data to SNOMED CT and aid the transition to use of SNOMED CT for patient problem lists. The download consists of two files (one-to-one maps and one-to-many maps), which include usage frequencies of ICD-9-CM codes based on CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) data, and SNOMED CT concepts from the CORE Problem List Subset.

• UTS API 2.0 Beta Launch

  The March release of the US Extension to SNOMED CT is available for download in SNOMED CT Release Format 2 (RF2), Snapshot View. The previous March download is the Release Format 1 (RF1) version.

• An Overview to RxNorm (Updated)
  March 16, 2012
  The updated RxNorm Overview is now available. The overview gives new users a general idea of the purpose and structure of RxNorm.

• SNOMED CT® to ICD-10-CM Cross Map – Preview Release
  March 1, 2012
  The new SNOMED CT to ICD-10-CM Cross Map is available for download by UMLS licensees. The map supports semi-automated generation of ICD-10-CM codes from SNOMED CT data for reimbursement and statistical purposes. The preview version provides mapping from 7,277 SNOMED CT concepts. NLM will provide an updated version mapping from approximately 15,000 SNOMED CT concepts in June 2012.

• SNOMED CT®: US Extension, March 2012
  March 1, 2012
  The updated US Extension to SNOMED CT is available for download.

• UMLS Metathesarus Data Change
  March 1, 2012
  The maximum field length for the attribute name (ATN) field in the MRSAT file is now 100 characters. Users may need to update database load scripts to reflect the change.

• New CMT Subset Available
  March 1, 2012
  The Hematology/Oncology Problem List Subset from Convergent Medical Terminology (CMT) is available for download by UMLS licensees. The subset includes 2,846 concepts.
