American Medical Biography: or Memoirs of Eminent Physicians who have flourished in America. ..., James Thacher, Boston, 1828

Physician James Thacher (1754-1844) authored this "history" of American medicine that concentrates on the organizational achievements of regular medicine and leaves out mention of the Thomsonians (who relied on botanic ingredients in their ministrations), the homeopaths (whose practitioners believed disease can be cured by a substance that produces the disease’s symptoms in healthy people) and other sectarian challengers.
