The History of Miners' Diseases: A Medical and Social Interpretation, George Rosen, MD, New York, 1943

Physician, public health administrator, and medical historian George Rosen (1910-1977) first contacted widely admired medical historian Henry E. Sigerist (1891-1957) in the 1930s when, as an American medical student studying in Germany, Rosen was looking for a medico-historical thesis topic. On his return to the United States, Rosen became a prolific historical scholar, publishing a steady stream of articles in the Bulletin of the History of Medicine, as well as an impressive number of books and monographs, including The History of Minders’ Disease, which featured an introduction by Sigerist. Rosen later held a series of prominent positions in public health and health education and in the history of medicine at Columbia and Yale universities.
