The Saint-Johns Hopkins Hospital, Max Brödel, 1896
German born artist Max Brödel (1870-1941) was a medical illustrator at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where physician and educator William Osler (1849-1919) was one of the founders. Brödel humorously depicts Osler as a cherub, in charge of a cyclone which is banishing all disease from Johns Hopkins Hospital. The title of the drawing refers to Osler's habit of referring to the institution as "the St. Johns."
